The United States is making a list of high-tech factories in China that won’t get important tools. This will help American companies stop sending technology to China.
The list might come out in a few months. In 2022, the U.S. government said American companies can’t send equipment to Chinese factories making fancy computer chips because of national security worries.
But it’s hard for companies to know which Chinese factories make these fancy chips. They’ve asked the government to make a list.
This shows the U.S. wants to make its rules on chips going to China stronger. The government wants to help American companies follow these rules better.
The U.S. government didn’t want to talk about it. A person from the Chinese Embassy in Washington said the U.S. shouldn’t use national security reasons to hurt Chinese companies.
At a meeting in Washington, U.S. officials talked about the requests from companies for a list. One official said, “People are asking: “Please, just tell us which factories you care about.'” The official said the list might not have every factory, but it should help companies know which ones the government is worried about.
