Google rebrands its AI chatbot, Bard, to Gemini search engine with Google Workspace integration
Google has rebranded its AI chatbot, Bard, to Gemini, as part of its efforts to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Microsoft’s Copilot. Last week, Google launched the revamped AI model, which has received mixed reviews from users.
Gemini offers a non-paying model, Gemini Pro, which provides basic query responses. For more advanced features, users can opt for Gemini Ultra or Advanced, available through a Google One AI subscription priced at $20/month. This premium tier offers enhanced reasoning, coding, and instruction-following abilities, along with improved multimodal and data analysis capabilities. The AI Premium plan is seamlessly integrated with Google Workspace, allowing users to draft emails in Gmail, documents in Docs, presentations in Sheets, and access Google Meet recordings.
Similarly, when asked about political figures such as US President Joe Biden, Gemini offers limited responses, but freely engages in discussions about current TikTok trends, citing popular examples.
While Google advises against seeking medical advice from AI models, Gemini provides actionable steps for addressing medical conditions, albeit with a disclaimer urging users not to rely solely on its recommendations. In terms of mental health inquiries, Gemini swiftly identifies diagnoses and suggests recommended treatments, medications, and lifestyle changes.
However, while Gemini presents itself as a competitive AI model, it lacks distinct features that set it apart from its counterparts like ChatGPT. Additionally, its full potential has yet to be realized through further integration with Google’s ecosystem. At present, ChatGPT appears to offer more features, including third-party plugins, custom instructions, and memory capabilities, all within the same subscription model.
