Google will introduce an AI-powered photo eraser for both iPhone and Android devices come May.

On Wednesday, Google declared that it will democratize access to several AI-driven photo-editing features on Google Photos, which were previously exclusive to Pixel phones and Google One subscribers.

Starting May 15 and gradually expanding over the following weeks, Google will unleash a suite of AI-powered editing tools to all users. Among these features are the Magic Eraser, capable of eliminating unwanted elements from photos, Photo Unblur for enhancing blurry images, and Portrait Light to adjust the lighting of portraits.

The expansion will encompass a wider array of devices, including Pixel tablets. Desktop users must possess a Chromebook Plus with ChromeOS version 118+ or a minimum of 3GB RAM. Mobile users need Android 8.0 or iOS 15 or later, Google clarified.

Furthermore, Google will extend access to its Magic Editor to all Pixel devices. Each month, all Android and iOS users of Google Photos will be granted 10 Magic Editor photo saves. Pixel device owners and premium Google One subscribers with 2TB of storage will enjoy unlimited saves.

The Magic Editor, initially introduced with the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro last autumn, utilizes generative AI to facilitate diverse photo edits such as object removal, subject repositioning, or altering the sky’s hue, thus seamlessly creating new compositions.
