Apple’s market share dwindles in China.

Data from Counterpoint Research indicated a decline in Apple’s smartphone sales in China during Q1, with Huawei seeing a resurgence in the premium segment as a contributing factor.

According to Counterpoint Research, smartphone sales experienced a modest 1.5% growth, marking the second consecutive quarter of year-on-year growth.

Apple’s market share decreased from 19.7% to 15.7% in Q1 2023, with Vivo surpassing Apple to claim the top spot with a 17.4% market share, followed by Honor at 16.1%.

Huawei saw a significant 69.7% increase in sales, largely attributed to its Mate 60 range, securing the fourth position with a 15.5% market share.

Counterpoint Research analyst Ivan Lam attributed Apple’s decline to Huawei’s resurgence in the premium segment.

Lam noted that replacement demand for Apple is lower compared to previous years but suggested the possibility of an iPhone recovery due to gradual improvements over time.

The analyst explained that new color options, aggressive sales strategies, and potential AI enhancements could contribute to Apple’s resurgence.

Apple’s revenue in China decreased by 12.9% to $20.8 billion in fiscal Q1 2024, which ended on December 30, 2023.
