Amazon.com’s cloud-computing division, Amazon Web Services (AWS), announced a major investment of $11 billion in Indiana to construct data centers, representing the state’s largest capital infusion and pledging to create at least 1,000 jobs. This announcement by AWS on Thursday further solidifies the online retail giant’s significant presence in Indiana, where it currently employs 26,000 full- and part-time workers. The new data facilities will be constructed in St. Joseph County in north-central Indiana and will house computer infrastructure essential for cloud computing and artificial intelligence applications.
Additionally, the IEDC has agreed to offer performance-based incentives, including up to $18.3 million in tax credits based on employment levels, up to $5 million in training grants, and up to $55 million in Hoosier Business Investment tax credits. Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “Amazon has long been a valued economic partner in Indiana, and we are thrilled to welcome AWS.
