A teardown analysis conducted by online tech repair company iFixit and consultancy TechSearch International, commissioned by Reuters, revealed that Huawei’s latest flagship smartphone, the Pura 70 Pro, incorporates a higher number of components sourced from Chinese suppliers. Among these are a new flash memory storage chip and an upgraded chip processor. These findings, indicating China’s progress towards technology self-reliance, have not been previously disclosed.
The resurgence of Huawei in the high-end smartphone market, following four years of U.S. sanctions, is garnering significant attention from competitors and U.S. policymakers. It symbolizes the escalating trade tensions between the U.S. and China, as well as China’s pursuit of technological autonomy.
The examination also uncovered that the Pura 70 phones are powered by an advanced processing chipset developed by Huawei known as the Kirin 9010. This chipset is likely a refined iteration of the Chinese-manufactured advanced chip utilized in Huawei’s Mate 60 series.
