Exclusive: Arm CEO Sets Ambitious Goal to Secure 50% of PC Market within Five Years

Arm Holdings sets its sights on capturing over 50% of the Windows PC market within the next five years, according to the chip designer’s CEO. This ambitious goal comes as Microsoft and its hardware partners prepare to introduce a new wave of computers utilizing Arm’s technology.

Arm’s U.S.-listed shares saw a 2.6% increase in pre-market trading on Monday. The demand for Arm’s technology in personal computers received a significant boost after Microsoft announced plans to launch a new generation of PCs with advanced artificial intelligence features, positioning itself to compete with industry giants like Alphabet and Apple.

With Microsoft’s flagship Windows operating system set to run on Arm-designed chips, which have previously powered the success of smartphones, there is potential for a substantial shift in the PC market. For decades, Intel’s chips have dominated the industry, but the success of Arm’s push could reshape the landscape.

Arm’s CEO, Rene Haas, expressed confidence in the company’s ability to surpass the 50% mark in Windows market share within the next five years. Microsoft’s commitment to embracing alternative technologies to AMD and Intel’s x86 architecture is evident in its investment in developer tools tailored for Arm-based chips.

“They’ve gone above and beyond their previous efforts in developer tools, particularly in the last couple of years,” said Haas. “Their strong commitment from a software perspective is evident.”
