Ilya Sutskever, co-founder and former chief scientist at OpenAI, announced on Wednesday the launch of a new artificial intelligence company. The venture, named Safe Superintelligence, aims to establish a secure AI ecosystem amidst the competitive landscape of generative AI advancement. According to its website, Safe Superintelligence is headquartered in Palo Alto and Tel Aviv.
Sutskever detailed the company’s mission in a post on X, emphasizing a commitment to focus solely on AI safety without distractions from management or product cycles. Alongside Sutskever, the co-founders include former OpenAI researcher Daniel Levy and Daniel Gross, co-founder of Cue and former AI lead at Apple. Sutskever departed Microsoft-backed OpenAI in May following CEO Sam Altman’s controversial dismissal and reinstatement in November of the previous year, which led to Sutskever’s removal from the company’s board.
