Nvidia falls from top position as Microsoft takes the lead following a 3% decline

Nvidia’s (NVDA.O) shares fell nearly 3.4% on Thursday, allowing Microsoft to reclaim the title of the world’s most valuable company. Nvidia, which had surpassed Microsoft’s (MSFT.O) market capitalization on Tuesday, is expected to lose around $91 billion from its last closing market value of $3.34 trillion, bringing it to approximately $131.88 billion.

Microsoft’s market value also dipped to $3.30 trillion, with its shares decreasing by 0.4% to $444.8 in afternoon trading. Nvidia, Microsoft, and Apple (AAPL.O) are in a tight race to become the world’s most valuable company. Apple’s market capitalization stood at $3.22 trillion, with shares down 2.2% at $210.10 in the afternoon.

On Wednesday, Elon Musk announced on his X social media platform that Dell and Super Micro are providing server racks for the supercomputer of his xAI startup, which will enhance the capabilities of its AI tool, Grok. These companies manufacture servers equipped with Nvidia chips, positioning them to benefit from the increasing demand for processors essential for AI applications.

Earlier this year, Musk mentioned that training the Grok 2 model required about 20,000 Nvidia H100 graphic processing units, and future models, including Grok 3, would need 100,000 Nvidia H100 chips.
