British online supermarket and technology group Ocado (OCDO.L) announced on Monday an expansion of its partnership with Japan’s Aeon (8267.T), revealing plans to establish a third robotic warehouse. This new customer fulfilment centre (CFC), located in Kuki-Miyashiro, Saitama prefecture, Japan, is scheduled to commence operations in 2027.
The strengthened collaboration marks a significant development for Ocado, coming shortly after the company disclosed that its Canadian partner, Sobeys, had temporarily halted plans to open a fourth robotic warehouse, which had adversely impacted Ocado’s stock performance.
Ocado forged an exclusive partnership with Aeon in 2019. The first CFC in Chiba-city began serving customers in the Kanto region last year, with a second facility in Hachioji set to launch in 2026. Alongside expanding its network, Aeon will integrate Ocado’s latest technologies, including “On-Grid Robotic Pick,” aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and productivity.
