Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) and representatives of its largest workers’ union in South Korea, which has been on strike since early last week, have agreed to resume negotiations on Friday, according to both parties.
They plan to convene on Friday to establish a definitive negotiation schedule, Son Woo-mok, president of the National Samsung Electronics Union, whose approximately 30,000 members constitute nearly a quarter of the company’s South Korean workforce, announced during a YouTube live broadcast.
The union initiated an indefinite strike over wage and benefit issues.
Samsung stated it aims for a swift resolution of the strike and confirmed it has proposed an unconditional restart of discussions.
Analysts have indicated that an extended strike involving key personnel could further challenge Samsung, the world’s largest memory chipmaker, as it contends with competitive pressures in semiconductor technology for artificial intelligence.
