The European Union will move forward with high tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles, despite opposition from Germany. The tariffs, set to begin next month and last five years, could cost automakers billions. They are intended to counter what the EU sees as unfair subsidies by China.
In a recent vote, 10 EU countries supported the tariffs, five opposed, and 12 abstained. Germany voted against, but the EU Commission said it had enough support. Talks with Beijing will continue, but tensions remain, with China already investigating EU imports in response.
