Leaked interview unveils new color for Sony Xperia 1 VI and an overhauled camera app

The Sony Xperia 1 V, which launched last year, was available in an array of colors including Black, White, and Khaki Green. This year, the Sony design team has introduced a more vibrant option.

The upcoming Sony Xperia 1 VI will also be available in Red, as shown in the image below. For comparison, we’ve included the color palette from the Mark V, revealing minimal changes in design, at least from a rear view.

Notably, there hasn’t been a red Xperia model since the original Xperia 5, and that version leaned more towards magenta than true red.

This information comes from an interview with four industry insiders that was accidentally published early but captured by the Internet Archive. Leaks and teasers from Sony indicate that the Xperia 1 VI will depart from the 21:9 display format in favor of a new aspect ratio.

This change involves moving away from the 4K resolution. According to the interview, the new display will be FHD+ instead of QHD+, though this detail might be unclear due to machine translation from Japanese. The Xperia 5 series has consistently used an FHD+ display, making this shift plausible.

Another significant update discussed in the interview is the camera apps. Unlike the Xperia 1 V, which had a convoluted setup of three separate apps (Photo Pro, Video Pro, and Cinema Pro), the Xperia 1 VI will feature a unified app. The insiders describe it as “iPhone-like,” with tabs for switching between modes, including a Pro tab.

The interview also mentioned the Xperia 10 VI, which appears to sport a new mint color, differing from the 10 V’s color options. Additionally, it seems the Xperia 10 will lose its telephoto lens, mirroring the change seen in the Xperia 5 series.
