Amazon (AMZN.O) Web Services (AWS) announced on Wednesday its intention to invest 7.8 billion euros ($8.44 billion) in Germany by 2040, focusing on constructing a cloud computing infrastructure tailored for Europe. Last year, AWS revealed plans to store data on servers situated within the European Union, prioritizing data privacy for governmental bodies and clients in heavily regulated sectors.
The company disclosed its intention to establish multiple data centers in the German state of Brandenburg by the conclusion of 2025, accessible to all clientele. According to a statement, this new investment aims to bolster an estimated average of 2,800 full-time positions in local German enterprises annually. Additionally, AWS recently announced its collaboration with Telefonica Germany (TEF.MC) to transition one million 5G customers to its cloud platform starting later this month.
