Co-founder Ilya Sutskever leaves the company behind ChatGPT.

Co-founder and chief scientist Ilya Sutskever bids farewell to OpenAI, a pivotal player in today’s artificial intelligence advancements.

“OpenAI owes much to his contributions,” remarked OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in a company-wide message, as conveyed on the organization’s blog.
OpenAI, backed by Microsoft (MSFT.O), is renowned for its ChatGPT chatbot, igniting fierce competition among tech giants vying for dominance in the emerging generative AI realm.

Jakub Pachocki steps into the role of the company’s new chief scientist, as announced on its official blog.
Having previously served as OpenAI’s director of research, Pachocki spearheaded the development of GPT-4 and OpenAI Five.
“After nearly a decade, I’ve decided to part ways with OpenAI,” Sutskever shared in a post on X.
He hinted at an upcoming project of personal significance, promising further details in due course.
Sutskever’s departure follows the unveiling of OpenAI’s latest AI model, GPT-4o, capable of lifelike voice interactions across text and images, announced at an event on Monday.

ChatGPT, which swiftly amassed 100 million monthly active users upon its late 2022 launch, experienced fluctuating global traffic over the past year, recently returning to peak levels seen in May 2023, according to analytics from Similarweb.
A distinguished figure in AI research, Sutskever previously contributed to Google (GOOGL.O) Brain and pursued postdoctoral research at Stanford under the guidance of Geoffrey Hinton, a revered figure in AI circles.
