A cheaper Meta VR headset

Virtual reality technology continues to gain popularity, with major brands like Meta, PlayStation, Valve, and HTC launching various VR headsets to differing degrees of success. While the technology itself is impressive and expected to evolve further, a significant barrier remains: cost. Many potential users find themselves unable to afford VR experiences, as even the most affordable headsets can cost several hundred dollars, not including necessary software and hardware upgrades.

However, 2024 could mark a turning point. Meta, parent company of Facebook, has outlined a strategic initiative to introduce a more affordable VR headset. Dubbed Ventura, this device is slated to debut as the Quest 3 Lite, offering a more budget-friendly option while higher-spec models cater to enthusiasts and professionals.

Mark Rabki, Meta’s VP of VR, emphasized the company’s goal for Ventura in a memo obtained by The Verge: “Our objective with this headset is straightforward: deliver maximum impact at the most compelling price point in the VR consumer market.”
