A few days ago, we reported that Apple plans to make iPhone batteries easier to replace to comply with EU regulations. Instead of adhesive pull tabs, Apple will use a metal cradle that releases the battery when activated by an electric jolt—a technique known as electrically induced adhesive debonding.
Now, analyst and insider Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed that Apple will incorporate a stainless steel battery case to aid in battery removal. This design change will also result in a 5-10% increase in battery cell density, while still meeting safety standards, leading to improved battery life.

Kuo identifies Sunway as the supplier of the stainless steel battery case, positioning them as a significant beneficiary of this new partnership with Apple.
Kuo suggests that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be the first model to feature the new battery casing.
The EU requires that smartphone batteries be user-replaceable by 2025, meaning all phones will eventually adopt a simpler battery replacement method.
