Samsung Enhances AI in Foldable Phones and Health Monitoring in Smartwatch and Ring

Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) revealed its latest foldable smartphones on Wednesday, with the flagship model now lighter and slimmer and enhanced AI features. This launch aims to compete with Apple (AAPL.O) in the premium market.

Samsung also introduced improved health monitoring features in its smartwatches and a new health tracking ring.

Despite pioneering the foldable phone segment in 2019, Samsung’s market share fell from 81% in 2022 to 63% in 2023 due to increased competition. To attract customers, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is now the lightest and slimmest model, and the Galaxy Z Flip 6 offers longer battery life and a higher resolution camera.

Samsung priced the Z Flip 6 at $1,099.99 and the Z Fold 6 starting at $1,899.99, with a slight price increase despite higher material costs. New AI features include a “listening mode” for simultaneous interpretation and AI search functions developed with Google (GOOGL.O).

The Galaxy Watch now includes new sensors and a chip that boosts processing speeds. It is FDA-approved for sleep apnea monitoring and offers cycling and diabetes-related health metrics.

The new Galaxy Ring, priced at $399, monitors heart rate and stress levels and can control a phone’s camera or alarm. These products will be available starting July 24 in South Korea, North America, and Europe.
