Fiber-optic internet now goes superfast at 301 terabits per second. That’s 1.2 million times quicker than your regular home internet.

Scientists have made fiber-optic internet much faster than usual. They reached speeds of 301 terabits per second (Tbps), which is very fast! It’s like downloading 1,800 4K movies in just one second. This is way faster than the average internet speed most people have at home, which is around 242 megabits per second (Mbps).

They did this by using a special kind of light and some new devices. Normally, fiber-optic internet uses a specific part of light called the “C-band” and “L-band.” But these scientists used a different part called the “E-band,” which has never been used before for regular internet.

They tested this on the same kind of cables that are already under the ground, and it worked really well. This could mean that in the future, internet connections could be even faster than what we have now.
