Prospective Tesla buyers are ignoring the company as Musk’s reputation declines.

SAN FRANCISCO/LONDON – The interest among potential Tesla buyers in the United States is waning, according to a recent survey by market intelligence firm Caliber. This decline is partly attributed to the polarizing persona of CEO Elon Musk. Despite Tesla’s sustained sales growth in the past year, driven by aggressive price cuts, the company is expected to report disappointing quarterly sales figures as early as Tuesday.

Caliber’s “consideration score” for Tesla, provided exclusively to Reuters, plummeted to 31% in February, marking a significant decrease from its peak of 70% in November 2021 when consumer interest in the brand was initially tracked. This downward trend suggests a challenging landscape for Tesla as it navigates both market dynamics and perceptions of its leadership.
