Indonesian Communication Minister Setiadi has announced plans for an artificial intelligence center in Central Java, with an investment of $200 million. Collaborating with Nvidia and Indonesia’s telco firm PT Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, the project is set for Surakarta city. Setiadi mentioned that the AI center could potentially focus on telecommunication infrastructure or serve as a hub for human resources.
Surakarta mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka, also Indonesia’s vice president elect and son of President Joko Widodo, has been briefed on the investment proposal by Indosat’s CEO.
Explaining the choice of Surakarta, Setiadi emphasized the city’s readiness, strong human capital, and existing 5G infrastructure.
Both Indosat and Nvidia have yet to respond to requests for comment on the matter.
